This layer shows the current known extent of macroalgal forests in European waters, collated by EMODnet Seabed Habitats. Kelp and fucoid brown algae are the dominant species that comprise macroalgal forests. The relevant habitats were extracted from the library of maps on the EMODnet Seabed Habitats portal and collated into one standardised shapefile. This data product should be considered a work in progress and is not an official product.
